Inspiring presentation to Business Studies students

miles barr 250pxStuart Barr from Miles and Barr talks to the Year 10 Business Studies Groups about being Competitive, Motivating his staff and Entrepreneurial Qualities.

The Business Studies GCSE Controlled Assessment requires students to conduct independent research to investigate a local business in response to an analytical question posed by Edexcel, the exam board. In preparation, we have a practice run to help students hone their research skills and build knowledge and understanding. This year, the topics are: Successful entrepreneur qualities; how businesses compete; and how businesses motivate their staff. We were very fortunate that Stuart Barr from Miles and Barr kindly volunteered his time to come into school and speak with year 10 students about how Miles and Barr and answer their questions.

Parent Gateway

gateway 150pxThe Parent Gateway is our name for the website offering parents secure access to data we hold about their children attending Dane Court Grammar School.

Appearing as a website in its own right, the Parent Gateway shows information about your child (or children) keeping you up to date with their progress and providing you with opportunities to discuss and support their time at school.

Kent School Games training day

sport leaders may14 250pxOn Monday 2 June, eight Dane Court students travelled by minibus up to the University of Kent for the Kent School Games training day. This was the first time they have held a training day for the event.
The morning started with an inspirational talk by an Olympic athlete, Martyn Bernard. He competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. His event was the high jump.

Double effort to lend a hand

P1030286 250pxStudents at Dane Court Grammar School have been raising funds for one of the chosen house charities, The Pilgrim's Hospice. Both Barcelona and Sorrento, two of the Houses at Dane Court joined together and organised a range of activities some of which were fairly unique. The fund raising began with Emily Bennett of Sorrento organising the first ever school sleep over for her year 9 class in the process the students raised over £200.
This was followed by girls from Barcelona spending two weeks collecting as many coins as they could to fill a massive heart at a 20p Bazaar Event hosted by both Houses. The Bazaar included one of the biggest Tombola ever seen at the school as students brought in over 250 prizes for the stall. Emily was delighted to have raised £660 in total which was presented to Jo Spiteri, Youth Fund Raising Coordinator at the Pilgrim's Hospice. The presentation took place in the last week of term before the Easter holiday.

A marvellous send-off for year 11

MO1L7308 133px Picture story
On Friday 9 May 2014 we laid on a great morning for our year 11 students. They all made the now traditional grand entrance along the red carpet with cheering students and admiring parents forming an excited guard of honour.
They then moved on to the theatre and enjoyed presentations from fellow students and mentors looking back over their time at Dane Court.

We wish them every success; both with the forthcoming GCSE exams and their plans for the future.

A message from our new Head of School

ATF 150pxIt gives me great pleasure to introduce myself as the new Head of School at Dane Court. My name is Andrew Fowler, and I have come to Dane Court from Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Penrith, where I was in charge of curriculum, timetable and the music department. Previously I worked in comprehensive and independent schools in Warwickshire, Berkshire and County Durham.
I was attracted to Dane Court by the outstanding quality of the teaching and learning opportunities that the school offers to its students, and the excellent relationships between students and members of staff. The progressive and forward-thinking nature of teachers and students here inspired me right from the start. Our house system offers wonderful support to students and a sense of identity. These are all aspects of school life that I value, and that I want to develop further.

Rainforest comes to Dane Court

Once again 'Zoo-lab' visited Dane Court with their collection of creepy crawlies to enthral students. The purpose was to demonstrate the diversity of life which lives in the tropical equatorial rainforests and how important it is for the world to preserve all the different species living there.

Students greatly enjoyed holding the snake 'Cleo' and were particularly thrilled to hold 'Steve' the millipede, the Giant snail 'Henry', a rather large stick-insect and Amazonian milk tree frog which was most attractive.
