Energize your future

The Lighthouse ChallengeA group of 35 year eight students spent last week working with Education Busines Partnership Kent and local employer Cummins Power Generation to explore how we make electricity and other forms of energy. The week started with a visit to school by James and Sudhar - two ambassadors from Cummins. They brought with them a range of models and kits for our pupils to use when exploring many ways of generating electricity. In the afternoon James and Sudhar introduced our students to the challenge for the rest of the week; to develop an innovative way to generate power for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

High School Musical on Stage!

hsm 250pxIn July 2014 students and staff from across the school joined forces to present High School Musical on Stage!
Created by Disney and based on their own 2006 TV movie; "High School Musical", the theatrical format retains the energy and strong story line (described by the author as a modern adaptation of Romeo and Juliet) of the film version.

International Baccalaureate results 2014

P1020630 250pxDane Court Grammar School is absolutely delighted with their International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma results, received this week. 92% of students passed the Diploma and, across the whole year group, the average point score was 33 – equating to the equivalent of 3 A level A* grades each.
Annie Hale, Head of Sixth Form, said "This was our first IB cohort with the whole year group studying either the IB Diploma or the IB Careers-related Certificate. They have performed quite brilliantly. The IB is the best educational offer in the world and is far more coherent and worthwhile than simply taking three A levels. The IB is also regarded by many as being more challenging than A levels – and our superb results prove that Thanet students not only have the sticking power, but also the talent, to compete against the rest of the world and come out on top."

Group 4 science fair 2014

P1010796 250pxThere are over 100 sixth form students taking science subjects at Dane Court this year. They all took part in the Group 4 Project, an activity designed to provide them with an opportunity to develop their teamwork skills and explore a scientific topic in some depth.
Teams of students work on a research style project then create presentations of their work culminating in a Science Fair at the end of the week.

Kimono and Tanabata

P1020671 250pxThis week in the year 12 Japanese ab initio class we have focused on certain aspects of Japanese culture. Two things we looked at were the traditional Japanese clothing, Kimono, and the sacred festival of Tanabata, the star festival.

Year 13 Leavers' Ball 2014

DSC9642 250pxDane Court Sixth Form held their Year 13 Leavers' Ball at St Augustine's on Friday 13 June and whilst this might be an inauspicious date for some it certainly was not for our party goers. The event was a wonderful celebration of the last evening together as the camaraderie and optimism of all the students was a tribute to their tremendous spirit of adventure and fun. These photos so clearly demonstrate this joy and delight in youthful glamour. Staff applauded this rite of passage as year books were also dispersed which only further added to the mix of sadness and delight. Midnight came only too soon and all lingered, as if by some miracle the night would never end and they would forever remain connected.
