IB results 2024

Sixth Form students at Dane Court Grammar School are celebrating another excellent set of results in their International Baccalaureate (IB) exams.

The average score on the IB Diploma is an impressive 33 points, which exceeds the global average and is equivalent to 192 UCAS points (A*AA at A Level). 41% of students achieved a score of 35 points or above.

A remarkable 17% of students attained 39 points and above, the equivalent of 3A* at A Level, placing them in the highest echelons of UK academic achievement. 8% of students attained 43 points and above.

Two students, Belle Prentice and Mikey Chesters, attained the maximum Diploma points score of 45 points, a truly exceptional achievement which puts them in the top 0.5% of IB learners worldwide.

Once again, our IB curriculum pathways at Dane Court have proven to be an excellent springboard for prestigious university destinations. 5 students received offers from Oxford and Cambridge, and DP and CP students are moving on to a wide range of courses, from Veterinary Medicine and Computer Science to Geography and Law, many at leading Russell Group providers.

Here are just some of the individual successes celebrated by top performing Diploma students at Dane Court this year:

  • Belle Prentice’s outstanding full-mark score of 45 has won her a place to study Psychology at the University of Cambridge
  • Mikey Chesters has also attained 45 points and has been awarded a highly-prestigious organ scholarship at the University of Oxford
  • Hitesh Patel has attained 43 points and has exceeded his offer to study Computer Science at Warwick
  • Isaac Bright has achieved a highly impressive score of 44 points, exceeding his offer for the University of Cambridge where he will study History
  • Dillon Cartwright has also achieved a score of 44 points and will study Chinese at the University of Oxford
  • Henry Mason has achieved 41 points and will study Statistics, Economics and Finance at University College London
  • Emily Lin has scored 40 points and has exceeded her offer to study Law at the University of Southampton
  • Thomas Drake has achieved a score of 38 points and has won a place at the University of Nottingham to study Veterinary Medicine

In addition, our IB Careers-Related Programme students are celebrating as 85% of the cohort have achieved D*/D in the vocational subjects released so far. 59% of the IBCP cohort have also been awarded an A or B grade in their Reflective Project - a core component that requires the study of an ethical dilemma in their vocational subject, developing students’ commercial awareness and critical thinking.

The strength and breadth of the IB pathways has enabled high achieving students to choose between degree courses at Russell Group universities and paid, degree-level apprenticeship programmes. Ella Thompson achieved a starred Distinction in BTEC Business within her CP programme and has won a place to study Business Management at the University of Exeter.  Other students are in line for impressive apprenticeship and employment opportunities in areas such as engineering, healthcare and finance.

Headteacher, Martin Jones, said: “Congratulations to all of our Year 13 students. These outstanding outcomes are the result of an enormous amount of hard work and determination, and this impressive level of achievement will enable the students to progress to some exciting destinations in the new academic year. We are delighted that so many of our students have already secured their university or high-level apprenticeship place, and they can look forward to an exciting future.

On behalf of the students, I’d like to thank our brilliant teachers, the Sixth Form Office and the support team here at Dane Court. We’re all very proud of the students’ achievements.”
