Congratulations on gaining a place to join our school! We are looking forward to meeting you soon and telling you all about life at Dane Court.
We will be using this webpage to help you get to know the school. We will release a series of resources for both you and your carers to help you become more familiar with the school and covering a range of aspects of school life.
From this site, you will be able to access electronic copies of information letters that have been sent out and we will be posting resources that our Year 7s have created to support your transition.
Listen to our podcasts made for the Year 6s joining us in September on the reality of life at Dane Court.
Here are some really useful videos produced by Childnet to help young people make a smooth transition from primary to secondary. Videos cover issues such as having a first phone, group chats, and handling friend and follower requests.
Stagecoach South East has created a useful video and leaflets for year 6 students intending to use the buss to travel to and from school:
These were made during the covid pandemic. You may still find them useful.
You are invited to join us for our Sixth Form Induction Event from Wednesday 29th June to Friday 1st July. The three-day event will be the chance for you to gain a valuable insight into the curriculum, programmes and teaching of the International Baccalaureate as well as discover and participate in the extra-curricular provision offered within the Sixth Form. The outline for each day is as follows,
You will have the opportunity to speak to current Sixth Form students about their studies as well as teachers of your chosen subjects and the Sixth Form team. Additionally, we are welcoming speakers from university and apprenticeship providers to join us to provide talks and to answer any questions you may have. We encourage you to attend all three days as there will be a different focus for each day, allowing you to tailor your sessions to the IB programme you have chosen to study.
A day dedicated to furthering students' understanding of the individual IB subjects. This will involve participation in taster lessons which focus upon giving a true reflection of the teaching, learning and assessment within the subject.
Sessions will also focus upon university pathways, making the right IB course choices and the benefits of studying in higher education.
A second day of IB subjects taster days as well as the opportunity for CP students to participate in vocational subject lessons, plus information on our links to apprenticeship providers and destination opportunities.
Additionally, there will be a particular focus upon furthering students' understanding of the IB programme they have chosen to study. This will include sessions on the IB ‘core’ e.g. Extended Essay for DP students or Service Learning for CP students.
The morning session will provide a further opportunity to experience lessons. Students will experience some of the super curricular activities we offer in the sixth form to enhance their cultural capital, soft skills and knowledge of the world.
The afternoon will allow for students to spend time with their peers and the teaching staff for lunch on the field, weather permitting. Students will also have the chance to participate in some team building exercises and sports with their mentor groups.
The IB curriculum is a wonderfully challenging and broad route for future destinations. You will have the opportunity to explore the exceptional and aspirational destinations our students have access to as students of the IB, including routes to Oxbridge and other Russell Group universities as well as the degree level apprenticeships on offer. Before your induction dates, I would like to encourage you to visit our sixth form admissions website to find out more about the IB programmes and achievements of our students.
We wish you the very best of luck in your upcoming exams and look forward to seeing you in June. Best wishes
