Year 13 students UCAS news

Application to study at university

The deadline for  university applications is 15 January 2012. It is possible to apply after this date but the universities are not obliged to consider your application. If you have already applied please make sure you check your emails regularly as this is the way that universities and UCAS will communicate with you. Once you have heard from all your choices then you are in a position to narrow down your selection to your firm choice and your insurance. The former will be the one with the higher offer than the latter naturally.

Olympic torch to come to Thanet

At the Turner Contemporary gallery on Monday 7 November it was announced that the Olympic Torch for the 2012 Games would be coming to Margate on 19 July 2012. Dane Court's Sports Ambassadors – Beth Smith and Zoe Woodward – were invited to attend the 'press release' event which was televised by ITV Meridian and also covered by the Thanet Gazette. St. Peter's Junior School Choir sang their 'Olympic' song and then the 'Thanet Schools Torch' was passed to each Sports Ambassador representing the various schools of Thanet.

Olympic indoor athletics house competition

To celebrate the Thanet Schools Olympic Torch being at Dane Court during the week of 26-30 September, years seven. eight and nine took part in a specially organised house competition.
The sporting event was organised in a such a way that it allowed students to experience 'first hand' the seven Olympic values of Excellence, Inspiration, Determination, Courage, Equality, Respect and Friendship.
Every student's performance contributed to the end score for each house, with extra points allocated to the Houses of those students who were first in an event for their year group.

The winners were:
Year seven - Sorrento
Year eight - Delphi
Year nine - Barcelona
