Today Dane Court celebrated Year 11 Red Carpet Day.
We were lucky to have fabulous weather for the students' parade, although the students may well have appreciated some air conditioning!
All agreed that they 'scrubbed up well' in sharp suits and beautiful dresses and the traditional procession up the red carpet was supported by many parents and friends, as well as the other students during break time.
The leavers' assembly was a real celebration of five years of friendship and shared experiences. Students from all the houses enjoyed presentations, speeches (and poems!) from their mentors past and present, and there were appearances of all the students in their Year 7 incarnations, courtesy of our photo archives. The event was a real testimony to their camaraderie and support for each other and also to the genuine fondness that their mentors felt for them. And this year they had organised a yearbook that was distributed after the assembly - well done to Evan for organising this first!
They have been a terrific Year 11, a yeargroup with huge promise and character, and we look forward to welcoming them into our Sixth Form in September. In the meantime, a long and well-deserved summer holiday awaits!

Curry Night and Auction of Promises
Written by Mr M Alderson
On Friday 19 May 2017 we will be holding a evening out with a difference. On offer from 7:00pm will be a choice from a range of delicious curries, naan and rice followed by a dessert. Tickets for the event are available from the school cash office (£7.50 adult, £5.00 child). Gadds' brewery will be providing a bar - all takings are being kindly donated to our causes (see below). After the meal we will be auctioning a wide range of 'promises' - products, services and experiences - for which you can bid See below for the list of promises so far (or download here).
Why are we holding an auction?
Some money will kick-start the funding of our big Diamond Celebration day on 1st July.
An element of the 'Diamond Legacy' will fund some of the new kitchen area in the Food Technology Department.
Some of the money will be going to a charity, supported by Thanet Schools. Global Challenge works collaboratively with partners in the Soroti district of Uganda to initiate and maintain a range of projects focusing on education, alleviating poverty and suffering, and establishing initiatives aimed at improving self-sufficiency. The charity’s largest project is Crossroads Secondary School which it finances and supports, providing education to around 300 children. The charity’s other big initiative is to provide practical help to young people with disabilities and learning difficulties, especially in the outlying villages around Soroti.

Diamond Day - picture story
Written by Mr M Alderson
To mark our school's sixtieth year, we threw a big party on Saturday 1 July 2017
The people have spoken – at Dane Court Grammar School, at least. Students stood as candidates for election in each of the school’s six houses. A week of hustings at lunchtime was followed by the vote, which gave a resounding victory for Labour.
